About

Are you also interested in developing a commercial web site on a budget? Would you like to know about building a website?

Ironically, I thought I knew. I work for a company who’s business it is to build software. It just so happens that when you’re part of a large team you take much for granted. From business experts who define requirements, creative experts designing user interfaces, testers and other folk who manage everything from infrastructure to resources to sales. In my case, I realized very quickly that I didn’t quite know the whole picture, and that a LAMP is not just a stand with a lightbulb that emits light!

The problem (and the fun!) of building a site for yourself, is that you are on your own. And on Day 1 it hits you. You realize just how much all those non-programmers actually contribute to a successful software project.

You’re all alone except perhaps for a friend or two.  That is,  if you still have any friends after spending all those ungodly hours in front of an LCD. If not, you are truly on your own.

If you are trying to build a commercial website for yourself, want to do it for free and don’t know how to set about it, this blog may help.  There’s a ton of stuff I learnt since I started this project, most of which was learnt the hard way.

One thing I really wished for everyday was for a single good resource that had all the info I needed for this.  Perhaps my notes may help you one day!
